Short Film Work

2020

Alongside my theatre design work, I have been learning editing software for video and film. These include Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premier Pro. I have become quite proficient in both, making two short length films and a VR experience for my YouTube channel. A work I am particularly proud of is Shakey Shakespeare, a parody music video I co-wrote and directed. Using skills developed from my time at LJMU I produced the video using an OSMO camera and edited it using the aforementioned software. One challenge I find particularly interesting in the conversion of lighting from theatre to film. Obviously, the frame in film is much tighter compared to the audience’s view in a theatrical setting and thus the lighting effects are much more noticeable. This requires a much more sensitive approach towards lighting a scene. Ensuring all directional forms of light are accounted for and applied appropriately. Whilst I am relatively new to the field of film and video, the skills utilised in the making of my side projects have often come in handy when video designing for theatrical projects.
